Cause 1: Strain
Injuries or tension in the muscles or ligaments can lead to back pain. This type of strain usually happens after an accident or a fall. Still, it can also result from lifting something heavy without using proper form. Some other reasons for strain could be:

- Damaged disks
- Injuries, fractures, or falls

Cause 2: Structural Problems
While we’re not insinuating an issue with your spine itself, you may have a structural problem that’s causing your back pain. Look at these common examples and see if they ring a bell:
- Ruptured disks: The vertebrae in your spine are cushioned by disks, and if these disks rupture, the nerves will pick up more pressure, and your back might pain.
- Bulging disks: Similar to ruptured disks, bulging disks can also lead to pressure on a nerve.
- Sciatica: A herniated or bulging disk could press a nerve, which would explain why you feel a sharp, shooting pain through your buttock and down the back of your leg.
- Arthritis: Osteoarthritis can lead to issues with the hip joints, lower back, other areas. The space around the spinal cord could also narrow, an issue called spinal stenosis.
- Abnormal curvature: An unusual curving of the spine can lead to back pain, as in scoliosis, where the spine curves to the side.
- Osteoporosis: Bones, like the spinal vertebrae, become brittle and porous, and compression fractures become more likely.
- Kidney problems: Your back pain could be related to kidney stones or kidney infections.
Cause 3: Movement and Posture
Other than the aging process and conditions like arthritis, back pain can also come from how you move and hold yourself. Poor posture when sitting or standing for long periods can cause muscle strain. And activities that require repetitive motions or awkward positions can also lead to issues.
